Combat in Elyssia is broken down into 3 skills:
Attack - This affects which weapons you can equip, as well as your attack strength and your accuracy in battle.
Defence - This affects which pieces of armour you can equip, as well as your resistance to damage in battle.
Stamina - This affects how many hit points you have.
The best way to start combat is to kit yourself out with some Kalenite gear. At level 1 you will only be able to equip a Kalenite Knife and Kalenite Sabatons, so purchase a couple of each of those to wear.
Next you are going to want to get some food. This could be either fruit/veg which has been harvested, or cooked fish. Each item of food replenishes a set number of hit points.
Once you have the weapons, armour and food, head on over to Olias and you will find a place to train combat. It is strongly suggested you stick to fighting Giant Bug for a while, as the others will be too strong for you at the start.
NOTE: If you die during combat you will lose ALL the items you have equipped and in your inventory. So please be careful and make sure you have plenty of food to heal yourself.
Training your attack skill allows you to equip better weapons and deal out more damage in battle. To train Attack, go to your Combat Options page and select "Attack" from the drop-down menu, then any fights you win will give you Attack experience.
A summary of the weapons available can be seen below, as well as the levels required to equip them:
There are also special weapons which can be found throughout the game.
|Holy Warrior Sword||10|
|Holy Raahn Axe||40|
|Dark Thornguard Stave||40|
Training your defence skill allows you to equip better pieces of armour and makes you take less damage in fights. To train Defence, go to your Combat Options page and select "Defence" from the drop-down menu, then any fights you win will give you Defence experience.
A summary of the armour available can be seen below, as well as the levels required to equip them.
There is also special armour which can be found throughout the game.
Training your stamina skill increases your hit points , meaning you can take more damage without dying in battle. To train Stamina, go to your Combat Options page and select "Stamina" from the drop-down menu, then any fights you win will give you Stamina experience.
Your Combat Level is a combination of all 3 of the Combat skills, which calculates just how good you are at combat in general. When deciding which monsters to fight, you should use your Combat Level to work out which ones will be the right level for you. For instance, if your Combat Level is 1, you don't want to fight a monster with a Combat Level of 10. And likewise, if your Combat Level is 20, you will find no challenge in fighting a monster with a Combat Level of 1.

Player vs Player Combat
You can also fight other players by visiting The Posioned Lands, which is a free-for-all island you can access from Port Solera. NOTE: The Poisoned Lands is the ONLY PVP area, all other islands are safe.
Melee PvP works via a simple "ATTACK" link, which you can click to attack any person at the same location as you, this will then generate a hit on them based on your combat stats, your equipped weapon, their combat stats and their equipped armour.
Aestium PvP works by selecting a spell to use and then clicking the "CAST" link next to a player. You can cast attacking spells (whose power is dependant on the spell itself and on the Aestium level of your target), or you can cast defensive spells, such as creating a shield around yourself to limit the damage done to you, or pinning your opponent to the ground to cause them the possibility of being unable to strike you.
Due to these two specialities, it is quite even and either could kill the other fairly easily...for example:
Player 1 has Combat Lvl 1 and Aestium Lvl 40
Player 2 has Combat Lvl 40 and Aestium Lvl 1
Either of these players could kill the other, depending on who strikes first, since the fighter has a weak Aestium level and can't defend himself against spells, but the mage has a weak combat level and can't defend himself against physical attacks.
Although it could be argued that the Mage has the slight edge, since he can also cast defensive spells to hinder the fighter's hits. In which case, it's possible in the future that there may be armour brought into the game which would have the same effect in favour of the melee fighter, to even things out a little more, but this is not available at the moment.
In regards to the combat spells types, which you will know from fighting monsters affects the damage done depending on the type of the monster...all players are considered to be type NORMAL.
NOTE: In The Poisoned Lands anyone can attack you at any location, and if you die out there, you lose all of your equipped items and the ones in your inventory, so be careful! It should also be noted that you will still appear in the "Players at this location" section in The Poisoned Lands, even if you log off, so if you log off whilst in The Poisoned Lands, people will still be able to kill you!
